If someone was considering the chances on the eve of the semifinal confrontation, then, of course, he paid attention to the path of the teams. And, mainly, against the Spaniards, who had to spend extra times twice, and in the match with the Swiss national team, they also had to resort to a penalty shootout. In theory, the Italians should have had more strength, but in practice it turned out that Luis Enrique's charges were able to add during the game and withstand another 120 minutes on the field.
Although after the goal of Chiesa, who opened the scoring in the 60th minute, it seemed that Italy would not miss its own. Having correctly built their game, Roberto Mancini's team could catch an opponent on a counterattack. However, instead, she made a mistake on the defensive, allowing Morata to level the playing field and send the match into extratime.
In the extra 30 minutes, the Spaniards were already creating more chances, but the score did not change. And in the penalty shootout after two misses in the first series, the unsuccessful blow of the same Morata turned out to be decisive.
For the first time since 2012, Italy will reach the final of a major tournament and will face the winner of the England - Denmark pair at Wembley.
